What I Did For Love
I'm sure that most people have done things for love that they wouldn't have normally done. But to do it without regret ... I'm not sure about most peole, but most things I've done for love I have done without regret. I take that back... there may have been regret at first, but in time I learned that (pardon the cliche) it's better to have lived and loved than never loved at all.
One of the dumber things I did for love was to pub myself in mounds of debt. When I first began seeing Doug, he and I took turns flying back and forth to see each other. I paid for him to come here. He was a dad who paid child support for two kids. Duh... I was a single mom supporting the two of us. It was blind. I can look back now and see how dumb I was... how selfish. I regret the situation I put myself into financially, but I do not regret my relationship with Doug. Doug tought me some important things about myself, about my life, and about love.
I have also packed up my life and moved very far for love. Before living in Texas, I was living in New Jersey. I met the ex while I was living there. I didn't really like New Jersey anyway, so I packed everything that would fit into my car and drove to Texas. I had no idea that I would be giving up bits of myself, my friends, or my life by coming to Texas. I would learn that later. But again, I don't regret being married to Gary. We had a beautiful daughter who kept me going all these years. I can't believe sometimes that it's been 12 years since she was born.
I moved to be with Carl, too, but that's where things have changed. Yes, there have been sacrifices, but at last I feel that I'm in an equally give and take relationship. Those events in my life... the things I did for love... have prepared me for Carl. I have learned how to appreciate someone who loves with everything they have... someone who loves ME with everything they have.
Gone,
Love is never gone.
As we travel on,
Love's what we'll remember.
~A Chorus Line (Music by Marvin Hamlisch, Lyrics by Edward Kleban)

That is a LONG way to move. I missed that you were from the east coast originally. Thanks for the link as well. I LOVE those kinds of stories!!

I HAVE SEEN THAT STORY!! I SAW IT about 3 years ago and it is by far my favorite story. I tell people about it, wanting to remember what it was called. Because the man is the ultimate role model. I think the other men didn't respect him, but then they saw him doing everything to save them. The best story ever.

So I couldn't find the DVD for this story. ON AMAZON, the book is $100+. What? In regards to Jersey: Ok, that's better. You just didn't "seem" east coast. har har.
