Just An Act?
Last week I was gleefully enchanted to hear that they took Paris back to jail. No celebrity justice for Paris. What really struck me last week was that the guy who took this photo from Vietnam
was also the guy who took THIS photo.
Huỳnh Công Út, also known as Nick Ut is a photographer for the Associated Press (AP) who works out of Los Angeles. His best known photo is the Pulitzer Prize-winning picture of Phan Thị Kim Phúc, who was photographed as a naked 9 year old girl running toward the camera to flee a South Vietnamese napalm attack on the Trang Bang village during the Vietnam War. That's quite an honor to go from Pulitzer Prize-winner to photographer of Paris Hilton. I mean... Oh My God!!
And I'm totally with Irisheyes on this thing about Paris finding God. Normally I don't care about stuff like this, but it is scary to think that this girl is a role model for little girls all over the world. I'm personally glad she's had a wakeup call, but some of her comments leave me to speculate that she won't change that much when she gets out of jail. Her comment to Barbara Walters that she will "no longer act stupid" was especially a hard one to believe since she does that TV show with her friend Nicole Richie. Is she going to stop acting stupid and lose her show? Hmmmmm. I know she obviously doesn't do the show for money. She does it for publicity and to get her face out there for shock value. Maybe she doesn't consider that acting stupid.
And speaking of billionair heiresses, did you know that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is also a billionaire heiress? She was born to a wealthy Franco-American family best-known for the Louis Dreyfus Group, an international investment and banking firm. Her paternal grandparents were Dolores Neubauer and Pierre Louis-Dreyfus, a member of the French Resistance during World War II. I don't remember seeing Julia crying in the back of a police cruiser. Although I have to admit I have seen her acting dumb, but those were her roles in Seinfeld, Saturday Night Live, and The New Adventures of New Christine. Julia has won awards for her acting. Until Paris wins an Emmy or a Golden Globe award I'm not going to think she's "acting dumb."

Great points. I totally agree.

I dont really watch TV so Ive been spared a lot of the furore about Paris Hilton but even my 7 & 11 year old daughters think she is completely stupid and SO not a role model. They were aghast that she had got out of jail ("But that's not FAIR, mum, its just cos she's famous") and full of righteous indignation. Now that she's back in (she IS still in, isnt she?!) they are lemon-mouthed and consider justice has been done. As Jooj told me "If you dont want to go to jail, dont do dumb stuff." s x PS I checked my stats but it all seemed to be from my buddies. I am a bit of a 'tard with these things so I may have been reading them wrong!
