Harry Comes To An End

So I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows today.  I can't say that I was really surprised about anything and I have to admit some disappointment in the final chapter, but all in all I really did enjoy the book.  I won't say anything about anything because I know a lot of people are still reading.

I love books that I can devour like so much Thanksgiving dinner.  But I'm also glad that those books don't come along all the time or I would never get anything done.  I'm kind of sad that I ended the book because I really enjoyed the story and now I have to find something to keep me enthalled again.  I do have to admit though that between reading so much and playing my online game that my eyes are a little buggy.  Perhpas I need a break from both reading and gaming?  Nah!!

Dinner party for tonight is cancelled as Carl knew he wouldn't be home in time anyway, not to mention my house is unfit for human company.  A pack of wild dogs or other creatures would probably feel at home however.  I really need to get Aubrey to help more, but deep down I struggle with that.

For the longest time I resented my mother because I didn't get to be a kid most of the time.  At Aubrey's age I was doing laundry, putting dinner on the table, watching my younger brother, cleaning the house.  I resented it because it didn't leave me much time for anything else and I withdrew.  I know that all kids can resent their parents at one time or another, that they all withdraw at one time or another, but I'm trying hard not to expect "too much" from my kid.  She keeps her room clean, her bathroom relatively tidy (albeit with prodding), she empties the dishwasher, brings out her dirty clothes.  I think these are realistic expectations.  Sometimes she even asks if she can clean something or vacuum.  She helps with dinner.  I want her to enjoy being a kid while she can since she was pretty much robbed of a childhood with her dad.  Maybe that's really why I'm not more firm about her helping out around here.

She doesn't know it yet but I got her a small iPod for her birthday and my sister got her a Wii.  Aubrey will freak out about the latter.  I hope she at least likes what I got her.  I also got her a charm bracelet from James @very.  It has a birthday charm with her name, a volleyball, and Big Sister charms.  Ever to be outdone by my sister, I'm sure the Wii will be the present of the year.  But the Wii won't be here until Monday most likely and she will think my presents are great for a couple days!  LOL

I'm starting to feel my anti-social tendencies to pop up again.  I don't want to talk to people on the phone when they call.  I don't really want to see anyone from school.  I don't really want to go to church.  Maybe that's the real reason for calling off the dinner party.  I feel like I'm turning into a gigantic, fat, disgusting lump of do nothing flesh.  It's depressing.  But that is the nature of depression.  At least I'm not so bad I don't want to be around my own family.  if that ever happens, call the coo-coo van for me would ya?  Or kick me in the ass to get some real help.

The baby has learned to scoot while laying on her back.  When I got her out of bed yesterday she had rolled over onto her tummy.  She's quite the little toot.  Carl's mom is taking her on Saturday so that we can supervise the birthday party without having to worry about the baby.  She's even taking her for the night so a baby free evening.  Rock on!

Well, I should get going so I can find something to read... or play my game... or go blind from reading and playing my game.  LOL  Later!

Aubrey does about as much as Jooj does and it seems a reasonable amount to me. Jooj will also do extra stuff if I say "could you please...". I usually make the rule of 'if you made the mess, you get to tidy it up', that seems to work and it does get rid of big piles of stuff around the house (even if they just heap it all in their rooms - I dont have to go in there and they can CHOOSE to live like pigs if they want!). Dont beat yourself up over it, thats fersure! s x
