The Legend of Black Eyed Peas
Typically I don't believe in a lot of superstition, but in Texas the black eyed pea seems to be a pretty powerful one. You're supposed to eat black eyed peas on New Year's day. Well, this year we forgot and I'm beginning to suffer the consequences.
First there was the whole being sick thing. It wasn't just me, it was the whole family. Yesterday on the way to my car I jumped off a short ledge to the grass below because it was a shortcut to my car. Uhhh yeah when my feet hit the ground, the momentum of the jump continued to carry my laptop bag forward and propel me in an odd dance to keep my balance. I did not win. I fell flat on my face and sraped the hell out of my left knee and arm. Lots of blood, lots of pain, lots of crying on my drive home.
I got home to find my mom on the couch looking white as a sheet. She said she wasn't feeling well and hadn't had anything to eat. Further conversation leads to the fact that her heart has been racing off and on since 10:00 am. She goes to lay down, I put the baby down for her nap, and I go to clean up my wounds and have a short nap myself. Flash forward 2 1/2 hours... yeah... some short nap eh? Mom is still sleeping, baby is waking, I'm dying from pain. Mom finally wakes and is still white as a sheet. I convince her to see the doctor. Doctor has no appointments available so I call Carl to take her to the clinic because I have to do car pool. Carl picks up mom, I head off to school.
Aubrey calls me and tells me she has to stay late for band. Carl calls me and tells me the clinic doesn't take Medicare. *sigh* They head off to another clinic, I head home trying not to cry. Carl ends up taking mom to the emergency room because she nearly passes out at the clinic. Aubrey comes home and I call a friend to stay with the kids so I can run up to the hospital.
It turns out that mom is fine. There's no damage to her heart and she's going to take some medicine to keep her heartbeat regular. I grab some dinner with Carl and when I get home the TV is on full blast and there are strangers at my front door. My friend invited people over. Luckily I didn't come home a wreck crying or upset or anything. I'm not quite sure what this girl was thinking by inviting friends over but I probably won't be asking her to babysit again. LOL
Well, I'd better get ready for class and then I have to see if they're discharging mom from the hospital. Remember to eat your black eyed peas!

I hope that your Mom is ok, I know I'm late reading this so I hope that she's home and doing well again.
You and your family are in my thoughts.
