Here I sit

Normally when I go in the bedroom at night, it means I'm going to sleep.  So imagine my surprise tonight when I come out of the bathroom and find Carl in bed watching BBC and smacking on ice cream.  :(  I get in bed, take my glasses off and try to sleep.  smack smack smack crunch crunch *BBC world news blather" smack smack smack.  Yeah... so here I sit.

Senior Project

I'm off to do my big garden project this morning for my senior project.  We're having a community garden awareness day.  I have three teammates working with me and four other girls from another group decided to join our group because we rock.

We've had donations from all over the community and there will be representatives from local agencies like Salvation Army, local food banks, Heiffer International, etc. to talk about issues off homelessness, poverty, the working poor, and hunger in our county.  Despite the weather being crap, I'm really excited about the day.  I'll try to post some pictures of the event later.

Busy Momma

I have been very busy around here.  My mom flies home today so the last few days have been spent scrambling to get assignments completed that I know I won't have so much free time to complete.  It has been so great having my mom here to keep the baby out of my hair while i work on assignments, projects, and just play my dumb game online.  LOL

Speaking of my project, I don't know if I've even told anyone here about it.  I'm working with my church for my senior project at school.  We're doing a community garden that will raise organic foods for the local food banks and soup kitchens.  Anyone can garden, not just church people, and my school group is creating a big Awareness Day to teach the public about gardening, homelessness, poverty, and hunger right in our own back yard.  We're having agency representatives come out and there will be information-style booths, games for the kids, hotdogs, drinks, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and, hopefully, planting day activities.  Please send positive thoughts this way for great weather and a good turn out.  We've already been in the newspaper and soon we will be a story on our local area public broadcasting station.  They say they may even take it national to NPR!  I'm so excited.  Oh yes... I have great T-shirts too.  i will try to get a picture of Aubrey in one and post it.  I will also be posting pictures from our big day!

Carl and I are dumping the kids off tomorrow and heading for a weekend alone in Galveston.  I reserved a cozy bed and breakfast place with a room that faces the Gulf of Mexico and has a hot tub!  Woohoo time for some rekindling action.  LOL

Abandon ship!

I'm finally quitting leadership of the Girl Scout troop.  Today was the final straw.  I have been involved with the troop for five years planning every meeting and activity with no help from anyone.  Lately one mom has been helping me lead meetings if I can't be there, but I still have to plan and coordinate.  Today I got exciting news that I will be interviewed on public radio for my group's project at school with a community garden.  The garden is at my church and we have been getting so much done.  Anyway, the person will be possible calling me tonight about meeting up for a preliminary interview.  Today was the TAKS test at school for the kids, so I thought they wouldn't mind a night off.  I just got off the phone with my cookie mom and she ripped me a new one.  She said it's no wonder we can't get the girls excited about scouts when we only have one meeting a month.  This really hurt my feelings.   While this mom does an awesome job with cookie sales every year, she does ZERO for meetings.  I'm fed up.  I emailed council today and told them to please find a replacement or someone to assist me or the troop was going to come to a very abrupt end.  Hopefully they get on it.  I.am.so.done.

Cool Day in Kellville

So today I almost didn't go to class because I feel like shit and the weather has turned cold and rainy again.  But when I got to class I was happy that I decided to go.  It turns out that we had a celebrity visit to campus.  Gloria Steinem came to rile everyone up and talk about Hillary.  It was way exciting!!  I even got to meet her after the event and shook her hand.  It was a pretty cool day.  I told her that until I went back to college and started taking women's study courses I hadn't really realized that I was a feminist.  She laughed, called me a baby feminist, and said "we all have to start somewhere."  It was cool :)
